"And I don’t think of [Kevin Keller] as a “gay Character” as much as I do a character who is gay."

Paul Kupperbach on writing Kevin Keller.

There is a reason they are winning GLAAD awards left and right.

We are really sorry to hear about Comics Alliance. Personally, it was my favorite comic related blog, and it deserved every Eisner that it won. Can’t wait to see where the talented staff will be writing next.
It was Chris Sims’ writings on Archie Comics that helped me realize the legitimacy of them, and that they have merits that deserve to be looked at by the “serious” comic fans. So, yeah, I feel for all of you over there.
And because this is an Archie blog, here are my favorite Archie articles from Comics Alliance:

Yes, these are panels from one of the craziest Archies I’ve ever read.

Footage of aliens from another dimension inspires a Pokemon-like show, card and video game series. The aliens see Archie and the gang playing Pokemon and believe they are mocking the aliens’ culture. They abduct our protagonists and make them compete against each other. This is a four issue story arc.

When people ask you why an adult would read Archie comics, just direct them to this.

"Just that it’s risky, for sure—we all know that—but everyone at Archie, from Jon Goldwater on down, is 100% committed to putting out a special, high-class, horror project. That is moody, and weird, and eerie, and scary. It will be fun, no doubt about that—the way early Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson movies are fun—for instance, the love-triangle will be very much in evidence, even across the grave—but things are about to be get serious in Riverdale, y’all."

Here is a great article about the announced Jughead relaunch, written my favorite Archie blogger, Chris Sims. If you’ve never read his take on Archie Comics, go to Comics Alliance right the frak now.

An excerpt:

Throw in the fact that Jughead has always been a character that the company has always put into more experimental titles — recent issues added “secret agent” to his past roles as high school student, superhero and short-order cook at a diner that existed outside of time and space — and it’s hard to figure out why they’d feel the need to relaunch him. Archie’s characters, after all, are built to be “typical teens,” and tend to evolve pretty naturally over time without the need for hard reboots.

Maybe the plan is to take Jughead in a more serious direction by using his legendary appetite to comment on the scourge of childhood obesity?

Or to finally address and correct his rampant misogyny[.]

Or maybe to return the edge of hard sci-fi and capitalize on the success of Doctor Who by reviving his time-travel adventures with the Amy Pond-esque January McAndrews[.]

Found this in a recent Goodwill Archie purchase.

Admit it. D&D with Dilton, Jughead and Chuck would be amazing.
